Yukon, Oklahoma, has appointed John Brown as chief of the Yukon Police Department.
The announcement, issued on or around June 4, 2026, by the City of Yukon, names Brown to succeed the previous chief upon retirement. Brown assumes leadership of the department after serving as deputy chief.
Brown brings more than 23 years of law enforcement experience and more than 27 years of military leadership to the position. He has spent over 21 years with the Yukon Police Department, advancing through every rank from officer to deputy chief.
His assignments included management of daily operations, development and enforcement of department policy, and oversight of community relations programs. Brown also served as a certified Drug Recognition Expert and as the department’s Honor Guard Commander while functioning as an instructor for Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and drug recognition procedures.
"The City of Yukon is pleased to announce the appointment of John Brown as Chief of Police. Brown brings over 23 years of law enforcement experience and more than 27 years of military leadership to the position," stated the City of Yukon in its official government announcement.
City records show Brown progressed from patrol officer through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and major before his appointment as deputy chief. Each step included expanded responsibility for operational command, training coordination, and administrative policy.
Officials described the selection as an internal promotion that maintains continuity in leadership and specialized training programs already established within the agency. Brown’s combined military and municipal service record was cited as a primary qualification for the chief’s position.
The appointment aligns with standard succession practices in mid-sized Oklahoma municipal departments, where internal candidates with documented command experience are frequently elevated following a chief’s retirement.
